Swag (Baby) Swing

I’m not a huge fan of plastic toys, but man, sometimes those things are just too much of a bargain to pass up. I’d wanted a baby swing for the lovely Emmie when this ugly Little Tikes one came my way at Goodwill.

I would have liked it to be a bit cheaper, but I don’t see them very often. Even though it was hideous, I figured I could either hide it among the trees in the backyard or fix it up.  The backyard tends to be a little buggy in the summer, so I opted to put it on the front porch. The front porch is one of my favorite places to be. Emmie and I spend a big part of our day out there. I wanted to make sure the swing wouldn’t ruin the vibe. What happened instead was that this swing became the catalyst for a little porch pimping. I’ll share that with you later. But here’s what I did to make this swing swag…

I painted the entire swing with spray paint. Straps, ropes, and all. If I had it to do over again I may have replaced the straps, but they are working out fine for Emmie. A younger baby might be more prone to chew on them.

You might remember these chevron spots from this project. I had a few left over, so I figured they’d be perfect here. I also had some leftover fabric from this project. Emmie is super tiny for her age, so I made a little pillow to sit behind her to make the swing more comfortable. It’s diamond shaped which turned out really great. I only made it that way because the pieces I had left over were diamond shaped, but I love it!

Before I painted the swing, I pried off the Little Tikes plastic logo. I made a personalized logo in Word with a downloaded background. Then I used the old plastic logo as a template to cut it out. I covered it in Contact paper and glued it to the swing.  It looks a little better when it’s not quite so magnified. : )

Here’s Emmie enjoying her newly swag swing…
